Evil Bob Campaigns

Thanks for taking a look at my Legend of the Five Rings PbP game, Mystery of the Yukigami (Snowcreatures).  Hope you'll stay and make a character.  It will start on October 17th and will run for 6 weeks ending on November 30th.  New players will be welcome to join (or players that wish to remake new characters, for any reason) until November 9th.  "But wait!" you say, "What is all this?  I'm not sure."  Glad you asked.

This is a play by post game, or PbP.  It is done through post on this forum board where you describe what your character does within the setting presented.  When interacting with others in a way that influences or causes them harm, all resolutions of those acts will be done using the rules of Legend of the Five Rings 4th edition.  There will be rules changes and clarifications presented in other threads in the Setting and Rules section.  Every player must have a character that fits with the setting of Legend of the Five Rings using the rules in 4th edition and modified by the rules of this forum.  Characters that are created by the rules of L5R but do not fit this specific setting, it may still be rejected, please keep in mind the setting when making your character.  With that said....

Setting:
You are a member of the Imperial Legion, the Emperor's personal army.  It is made up of all the clans and only the privileged of the clans can gain invitation and only the lucky will be released from their lord's service to become part of the legion.  Your brigade was sent to help the Dragon armies of the north to secure the border of the Empire from outside threats.  The fighting was long, perhaps too long.  During the winter months armies are brought back to spend time with families or attending winter courts, fantastic social events that shape the politics of Rokugan.  On the way back to the capital the snow began to fall early and mountain passes began to close up.  Your army is now trapped in a valley and forced to take refuge in the Dragon village of Tabibito no Miyabita (Graceful Traveler), a well to do town that has many merchants and travelers that pass through it.  Setting up a camp your army now shares it's resources with the town.  Despite it's quiet, picturesque nature there is something wrong at this town.

L5R Timeline:  This is set during the jump between the Celestial and Emperor storylines.  Winter of 1184.

Plots:
I would like to let everyone know what the plot will be (but not where the plot will turn or what the end game will be) so they can keep it mind when they make their characters.

Main Plot
The winter starts slow with not much to do, but the valley is pleasant and the people are nice.  Soon the peace is broken as reports of strange spirit sightings come in.  Sometimes the spirits come peacefully, just observing, sometimes they cause mischief and sometimes they become violent.  Why are these spirits in a state of unrest and why here, at this place at this time?  It is up to the PC to solve the mystery before events come to a gruesome head.
What is needed to solve this plot: Sleuthing, Magic, Fighting

Sub Plot 1
During the fighting in the north a key officer, an imperial Tasia (a Captain ranked officer) was killed.  The four companies now must curry favor in any way they can with the Shireikan (brigadier general) so that their squad's Chui (Lieutenant) can be promoted that that position (meaning more promotions for that squad in general).
What is needed to solve this plot: Creative Thinking, Politicking

How far into the jump is this set?  Or is that being left indeterminate?  Just realizing my age/timeline might be off by a bit

I would like to know too. I assumed that we're closer to EE than to CE.

I assumed it was at the end of the jump. Don't ask me why :P

Well I left my story after the jump vague but I do definitely need to adjust my age then - by 13 years.

I just went from being the youngest PC to the second eldest so far :P

Okay all, got the exact date of the game.  It's the winter of 1184, 3rd Day of Hida.  Hope this can clear things up for all ya'll.  Adjust your backgrounds if you need to.
