Title: Officers and Utility Description Post by: Evil Bob on September 07, 2011, 11:14:19 AM Small, quickly fabricated buildings. There is an office for each officer where he can do paperwork or have meetings.
The Shireikan's office is larger than others and contains many scrolls and maps of Rokugan. There is also his pet nightingale in a cage that he keeps with him, even when traveling. There is also a small shrine there to his ancestors and shugenja work that he continues to study. There is also a meeting hall where all the officers can sit comfortable on pillows and discuss business (the Shireikan's pillow has an arm rest). The meeting hall has banners of the Imperial Legion. (Chui, Gunso and the Quartermaster can describe your office as a response to this thread.) Title: Re: Officers and Utility Description Post by: Kitsuki Masakaze on September 22, 2011, 12:53:12 AM Masakaze's Office
It is a small room, perhaps big enough to fit a half dozen comfortably or a dozen if they all squeezed in around the gunso's desk. In truth Masakaze prefers to have meetings elsewhere unless the need for privacy is paramount. The gunso is rarely in one's office, preferring to do the minimal amount of paperwork and having reports read to them as they tour the base or barracks. The rest of the time the gunso spends either in and around town, with others on patrol (even though not necessary thanks to rank), at shrines or in one's private quarters. On those occasions that the gunso is in or a private meeting is necessary the first thing to be noticed is the large but low desk that dominates the room. It is made of a dark, heavy wood and usually has a fair amount of paperwork scattered on it. Mostly reports and maps. The creases on the paper suggests they have all been read, some repeatedly. A few pillows sit in the corner that visitors can use, as well as some blankets for messengers who may have travelled some distance. There is a locked chest on one side of the room and a locked cabinet opposite it. No-one is quite sure what is inside either. A display cabinet sits by the door, holding a few masks the gunso uses, a couple of simple statues of the fortunes and some small artistic pieces. To the left of the desk, as you enter, next to the chest is a wall hanging with calligraphy on it reading "skill". On the other side of the room, next to the cabinet, is an ikebana flower arrangement that changes each week. It provides the only real source of colour in the room apart from the masks and art. Title: Re: Officers and Utility Description Post by: Akodo Inuichi on September 24, 2011, 06:05:21 PM Inuichi's office is one word. Lion. Upon entrance you can easily see that the room is designed for efficiency and not much more than that. The room contains a desk, a chair or two and various other items you would expect of an officers office. Things that stand out are carved wooden prints, each bearing a virtue of Bushido. A back banner of the lion stands in the corner, an imperial mon just above the clan mon. Despite it's spartan nature the room is extremely well kept.
Title: Re: Officers and Utility Description Post by: Toku Shokami on September 26, 2011, 09:14:59 PM Shokami's office is well decorated, most of the items were obtained as wedding gifts, from his wife's family. There is a well made and ornately carved desk in the back hall with a comfortable chair in the back left corner. In front of the desk there is four comfortable chairs, one for each Gunso. A painting of Toshi Rando as it was being constructed hangs behind his desk.
The back left corner holds a screen, painted with floral patterns and here is where Shokami stores his armor when it is not in use. It's also where he stores his shrine, and where he prays. The room is kept spotless, and Shokami spends some of his spare time making sure his system of filing is kept. Shokami does not hold meeting in his office, as it is a little small for an entire company to fit comfortably, and he prefers his men to be comfortable. On the South Wall, his company banner hangs, along with a list of the men who died for the Empire's glory. Title: Re: Officers and Utility Description Post by: Shiba Takeshi on September 26, 2011, 09:18:32 PM Takeshi's office is not what one would think of when they think of a Isawa trained shugenja. It looks more like a bushi's space than a priests. A large table is set up across from the door. Various reports and maps are on the table, however they are meticulously positioned and stored. It is known that messing up Takeshi's desk is one of the few ways to incite his anger. Behind the desk stands a full dashio stand. However the wakizashi is normally on the Shiba's waist.
in front of the table is a selection of sitting pillows for those giving reports to Takeshi. On the right side of office is a single painting of Kakita and Mirumoto Hojatsu standing across a golden field, both in there stances. Against the left wall is a large painting of the kanji for loyalty and for service. In the far corner near the desk is a shoji screen that separate's a small sleeping area from the main room. In it is a sleeping mat and a chest that holds the Chui's personal belongings. In the other corner is a small shrine he keeps for himself. Nothing in the office appears to be locked, but then again who would want to mess with a powerful Ishiken's stuff? Title: Quartermaster's Office Post by: Soshi Karoshi on October 02, 2011, 05:43:18 AM The quartermaster's office has been inserted in the Legion's storage area, detached from the regular barracks of the Genbu. It is effectively a singled-out part of its largest warehouse, sitting across one of its entryways, the other much wider and locked solid unless bulk quantities of provisions are brought in or out.
The office room itself is indeed a passageway. The lockable wooden screen to the left leads to the warehouse proper, the one to the right to Karoshi's personal quarters. The only wall without a door, the one opposite to the entrance, is occupied by a monumental set of shelves, filled up to the ceiling with scrolls containing inventories, reports, catalogues and rosters - it takes a small ladder to reach those farthest up. If one has ever an opportunity to peek into their contents, it becomes obvious that despite the quality of their calligraphy they are sets of codes and abbreviations, indiscernible without serious deciphering effort. What's more, there is no apparent order in their placement, and yet Karoshi always knows exactly where the required one is located. If for some reason the Legion needed a new quartermaster, Karoshi's successor would waste weeks if not months to get a grasp of the system and in the end would likely find it more prudent to start his own from scratch. The room itself is unadorned, austere even. The quartermaster's desk is more like a low counter, with documents piled on it, kept in place by a small paperweight statue of Ebisu-kami. The cushions available for visitors are decisively not a pinnacle of comfort and style, but the host's is actually no better. Since there is virtually no wall space for tapestries and other decorations, one would expect at least the wooden screens to be less plain. And in a way they are, displaying aesthetic calligraphy. 'Warehouse - Do not enter without permission' on the left one. 'Private Area - Do not enter' on the right. 'Exit' behind the visitor's back. All ascetic Lion, Crab and Dragon may feel like home. Almost. Karoshi receives requesters and supplicants with his back to the only solid wall in the room, the shelved one, exposing them to the discomfort of always having a door behind them. He usually receives them with a strong, unrefined soldier's tea he brews himself as he allows no heimin to wander in the area. The tea kicks the head and the guts like a drunk stevedore and is bitter like the life of his wife. In other words, it brutally awakens while leaving a bad aftertaste. If you still did not get the clue that it is hardly a place for social calls, consider the usual air of the room. It's heavy. As there are no windows there, it is aerated only when the exit door stays open, and it rarely does. However, it's not the scent of dirt or old sweat - the room is always neatly tidied up and the host is as pristinely hygienic as circumstances allow. It's the heavy odour of smoke, both from candles and from incense used across the warehouse to discourage the moths and other pests from making feasts on the Legion's supplies. It is admixed with a pervasive citrus scent from Karoshi himself. A more sensitive nose may discern that the smells of sick person also add to the vapour. There may be other olfactory factors at work here as well, but the net effect is nevertheless pretty stifling. No visitor is ever left alone in this room. The precaution is only natural since controlling the safety of the Legion's provisions is Karoshi's responsibility and he would not burden anyone else with it. Karoshi is not at the office all the time. Either check if you are lucky to find him there or make an appointment in reasonable hours. |
