I am pondering that myself, and as a quartermaster I think I should put the question forward.

Shin is used to the most spartan of rations as (in his opinion) everybody else should be.

Whatever is available. Asahi's simple that way.

Mojitos.

Miki has an unseemly fondness for fowl and rice.

And sweets.

Plum Sake and Hiyamugi Noodles while he will take anything when the time comes.

Sake, sake, proper soldiers rations, sake and possibly some sake.

Oh, and some raw meat for the girls.

Heisuke's motto regarding food is: "If it's good enough for my soldiers, it is good enough for me" He eats, and enforces his officers, to eat austerely and never better than the lowliest of soldiers.

Besides, Heisuke is a firm believer that gluttony and the way of the sybarite weaken the moral fiber of a person, turning it flaccid and dull as it's body.

And he'd know all about flaccid. HEYO.

The ever delicious mountain tuna! Masakaze cares not that it is really meat! With rice, with noodles, as part of a soup... all good!

Masakaze likes to vary food but won't complain at basic rations. Still, something exotic every now and then is welcome.

What a person likes and what they are actually eating are two different things.

After a decade in the Legion, including during two wars, Wake is used to eating whatever is on hand for rations.  As for preferences - he's quite fond of venison but doesn't expect to find that provided by the Legion.

I expect the chefs to prepare a dish that is pleasing to the palette AND beautiful to the eye. It is not enough for the dish to taste good (with a complex blend of spices to add depth), it must also stir the other senses. It must also touch on a relevant topic of the current political interest, refelct on the seasons, or remind us of an important day in history.

Why, one meal we had celebrated the destruction of the Pirate Vessel The Kumo's Daughter. Live crabs were placed in boats of wood upon a large pot of water. Each boat was then lit ablaze, and the crabs roasted thusly. The sauce was red, for the blood spilled defeating the menace. Absolutely delightful nod to the courage and honor of the Crane clan.

I shan't complain of soldiers rations. I did, howvwer, expect soldiers of our status to eat better.

I have faith in our quartermaster that he has taken well in keeping us properly supplied for proper meals. How ever we were caught earlier in the town and there might be a harder rationing later.

I will totally abstain from eating red meat if anybody goes mysteriously missing.

More so now that we've got a Spider on our hands. Tasty tasty Scorpion spies...

On the food front:
The Legion itself does not have enough food stores to last the winter.  The Dragon have graciously and compassionately allowed you to take from the stores of this town to feed the Imperial Legion for the winter.  This valley is fertile and has a good deal of farmlands, though no rice patties.

Hmm looks like I'll have to take the girls out to find their own food in the forests then.  Not that I expected a Dragon town to stock enough of what they eat anyway.  Mountain tuna only goes so far.

Suddenly, a Scorpion quartermaster makes more sense. ;)

Back on topic, Amano's favorite food is this fried meat product developed in a far-distant nation.  It's made from thinly sliced strips of swine.

Swine, you say. How dreadful! I cannot wait to try it.

fresh fish aka something he isn't getting here :p Is always a favorite for shuichi

as for drinks various teas especially the crane blends.

Takoyaki is a favorite snack for Yasuko, but one that's rare to get this far north and away from the sea.

Kitsuki Blend is her favorite drink, but she loves to indulge in the finer teas of the Imperial lands.

Tofu with scallions and soy sauce.

Karoshi-san, can you acquire peaches? I do not need the meals I expect in winter court, but some peaches would be delightful!

We'll see what locals can provide. I guess being in Dragon lands and all, we won't have problems with plums though.

You will need to speak to Homsar about peaches...

Out of season there probably won't be all too much in the way of fresh fruit... maybe pickled or dried though O.o

How I long for home already.

Outside of actually marching and campaigning, Heisuke does have some taste for better food. He particularly enjoys tea, which compromises the totality of the drinks he takes (Since he doesn't enjoy alcohol) and simple foods that are not too heavy on the palate.

The Dragon are quite skilled and awesome with the art of pickling food. ^_^
