At first glance, someone may think that there's a random Phoenix child wandering amongst the Legion members. However, upon closer inspection it'll become clear that the young one wears the mon of the Imperial Legions over his heart.

Hanasaku is a true child prodigy. Just shy of a year past a very young gempukku, he is regarded by his sensei and those he advises as a master of strategy and tactics. In addition his training amongst the Asako has gifted him with a wide array of knowledge useful in his position amongst the Legion's company of courtiers.

With inquisitive eyes, somewhat shaggy hair and a face that's still a bit plump, Hanasaku could be called cute... though he'd surely take offense. Socially he is an adult and he knows it. He wears his wakizashi on his hip and though it occasionally hangs quite close to the ground, he still bears it with pride.

Don't need to worry there. ^_^ Hanasaku's 8 years younger than Iori, a courtier and I suspect will be very, very different from your healer.

When they are the only widely-known comparisons Yoritomo-sama, and the obvious ones no moral man would wish to dishonor, to do so is only natural. Say what you will but there are not many examples of samurai who achieved their gempukku prior to the age of ten to draw upon and I had to be sure that the chosen names would be familiar to Akodo-sama.

That said, your argument is flawed for I did not compare our skills or the glory of our names, but rather pointed out a single quality we share as a citation of historical precedent. A bushi of the Lion will often point out proudly that he is of the same clan as many specific Lion heroes, and to allow insult upon the actions of his clan, dishonors not just him but those who took part in similar action before him. However, this does not mean that he is truly comparing himself to Akodo One-Eye.

That said, if you believe citing historical precedent to be hubris, I would have you take such claims up with the Ikoma Historians, the masters of the Asako libraries and those who maintain stores of knowledge within your own clan. I suspect they would question the validity of such wisdom.

I call upon the wisdom of Sun Tao, Akodo-kami and others just as any other advisor would do. My knowledge is that which has been gained in the Asako libraries at the behest of sensei more suited to deciding whether or not I should be given said knowledge than yourself. If you wish to question my presence, do so to those who made the decision to send me here. Speak to my Lord. Speak to the heads of the Legion who allowed my presence. You claim I presume too much and then from the same mouth you presume to call the actions of those you and I serve into question. Hypocrisy suits no Lion and you do yourself a disservice by employing it.

Soshi-sama, I would agree. I do not seek to emulate the extremes. I do not pursue knowledge beyond what is acceptable. To know of war is an honorable pursuit as, as any Lion will tell you, samurai are made for war.

Toturi Sezaru got his gempukku and was serving the Imperial families by the time he was my age. Naka Kuro, one of the first Grand Masters of the Elements, had finished all training in the Isawa school at an age younger than I. I am young. But I am an adult.

Surely an honorable Lion would not dishonor my name, the decisions of my sensei and the names of those who came before by saying otherwise. Right?
